Our CEO and Co-Founder Vikas Enti joined Steve Cross on the Success Stories podcast for a candid conversation about why construction has stagnated for decades and what it actually takes to change that.
Vikas walks through the structural forces behind the housing crisis: severe undersupply since 2008, a fragmented industry that relies on 25 subcontractors to build even the smallest home, and a cost structure where 35% of a home's price is markups passed from subcontractor to buyer. The answer wasn't to automate the existing process. It was to collapse the value chain entirely, move construction off-site, and build a vertically integrated production model from the ground up.
The conversation also gets personal. Vikas talks about leaving a stable career at Amazon Robotics after deploying nearly half a million robots, the family calculus behind that decision, and what nobody can prepare you for as a founder. "You need to earn your right to exist in the market," he says, "and the market is not going to test you by saying yes. They're going to say no before they get to a yes." He also shares one of Reframe's hardest-learned lessons: always wait for the right hire. The 80% candidate who can start today will cost you more than the 2x candidate who starts in three months.
His parting principle: obsess over the problem, not the solution. The solution can change. The problem is what keeps you honest.
