“The goal is to augment the entire construction process, making it more predictable and efficient while building on the methods and expertise that already work.”
That’s how our CEO and Co-Founder Vikas Enti described our approach to Joe Quirke at Global Construction Review, in coverage of how we’re putting our new $40 million in growth funding to work. The centerpiece is FAB1, our new microfactory in Billerica, MA, which replaces our original Andover facility as it comes online this October and is designed to produce up to 500 multifamily units or 250 single-family homes a year.
Inside our microfactories, software-guided robotic arms handle repetitive steps like measuring, cutting, fastening, and material handling to build panels and modules, which our field teams then assemble on site. Vikas explained that a microfactory can be set up in an existing 50,000 to 70,000 square foot building in around 100 days and equipped for less than $5 million. He also walked through the role our software plays: “Our software incorporates local zoning, terrain, climate and architectural requirements, then automatically generates the production files and field instructions used to build each home.”
So far we’ve completed 10 homes, with another 114 expected over the next year. One of them is a wildfire-resilient bungalow and ADU in Altadena, California, for Jonathan and Marisol Talbot, who lost their home in the January 2025 fires: “After the fires, we were being told that a traditional construction rebuild could take years and could cost far more than we could afford. Reframe streamlined the process, secured the permits, coordinated with a contractor, and is completing our new wildfire-resilient home in months at a cost that worked for our family.”
